About us
Our station was first established in a disused blacksmith shop on the corner of Halswell Junction Road and State Highway 75 in 1954 by Clarry & Lew Nicholl, initially as an automotive repair workshop only, prior to being granted authority to retail motor spirits in 1956.
In 1969 the station was rebuilt on our current site, opening in March that year.
Graeme Nicholl began managing the business at that time and various improvements were made over the following years to cope with an expanding business, and consequent demand, as the Halswell population expanded. The shop was trebled in size and the forecourt and canopy were changed from two lanes to four during that period.
We took the opportunity to change our fuel brand from Caltex to Challenge in 1998 and were one of the first sites in the South Island to do so.
Mark and Simon Nicholl are now the third generation of our family involved in managing the business.
We realise that our staff are our most important asset and take pride in being able to provide personalised forecourt service. As a proud MTA Member, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of customer service and employee engagement.
We provide an LPG refill facility for both automotive & bottle fill applications and provide a 45kg LPG home delivery bottle swap service in the immediate Halswell area.
We also have a very experienced fully qualified workshop team, led by Gary Mehrtens, and they specialise in all forms of vehicle repair and servicing, including Warrant of Fitness inspections, cam belt and CV joint maintenance, brake & suspension repairs. Our team use the very latest electronic diagnostic equipment to sort out difficult issues on the very latest European, Japanese & Korean vehicles.
In addition we also operate a Bridgestone Tyre Centre on site. We stock a huge range of Bridgestone & Firestone tyres for passenger, four wheel drive and light truck applications. We also carry out electronic four-wheel alignments and provide nitrogen tyre inflation, which both combine to maximise tyre life.
The current youngest Nicholl family members are the fifth generation to attend Halswell School since its inception, so we are keen to provide financial support to the school where possible.
